Carl Showalter, General Partner, Opus Capital

Carl Showalter is investing in Internet and data communications startups and brings more than 12 years of operating experience to Opus. Previously, Carl was a General Partner with Lightspeed Venture Partners.

Prior to this Carl served as Vice President of Marketing at Juniper Networks, where he built and led a global marketing and product management organization. Before Juniper, Carl was Vice President of Dial and Broadband Services for UUNET, overseeing the 300-person, $1B revenue division.

He also held various sales and management positions at ANS, an AOL company, where he helped build AOL’s modem access network and then helped launch hardware-based firewalls and IP VPNs in the mid 1990’s. Carl began his career at Bellcore, focusing on network security and data service delivery. At Bellcore, Carl performed logical and physical attacks on phone company infrastructure, helping them fix these vulnerabilities.

Carl holds a BS degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia and an MS degree in Engineering-Economic Systems from Stanford University.

 

 

 

 

Herman A. White, Jr. – Senior Vice President, Business Banking, Technology Credit Union

Herman White has been working with technology companies and startups throughout
Silicon Valley, the US and Asia for over 20 years. Prior to joining Tech CU, he
was a co-founder and Partner at CrossBridge Venture Partners, where he invested in
such companies as Good Technology (acquired by Motorola), eSilicon, Bytemobile,
Orchestria, and HedgeStreet (acquired by IG Group). Before founding CrossBridge,
Herman worked in a variety of positions at Silicon Valley Bank, and was also involved in venture debt and venture lending to early stage companies. Earlier in his career, Herman
worked in technology lending, project finance, public finance, trade finance, real estate finance, and international banking at The Sumitomo Bank, Limited and Mercantile Bank, N.A.

Herman holds a BA in Economics from The University of Utah and a Masters in International Management from Thunderbird School of Global Management. He was  formerly a Director of Thunderbird’s North America Alumni Council. Herman is a frequent speaker to groups on such topics as startups and entrepreneurship.

Shawn Shen, Developer Advocate, Google

Shawn is a Developer Advocate at Google. His current focus is to cultivate killer apps and help developers build viable business on Google TV, which is an Android-based Smart TV platform. Previously he worked Geo and OpenSocial APIs at Google.  Prior to Google, he worked at Yahoo, Ariba, eBay, plus a few start-ups in Silicon Valley.  While he is not coding or helping developers, he enjoys music, physics, and random philosophical musing.

 

 

 

 

Zvika, Founder, Mobile App Loader

Zvika has been in the forefront of the mobile industry for the last decade. From launching mobile games in Europe as early as 2001 to bringing mobile e-mail to millions of users at Yahoo!, Zvika’s life mission is to innovate and create.  Having generated several patents in the mobile space, he has embarked on a new mission to change how mobile applications are built, traded, and deployed. His professional achievements in the fields of marketing and product management span three continents and involve planning, positioning, and writing specifications for the next generation of products and solutions, based on direct contact with customers and a strong understanding of market trends.  Zvika has a M.Sc. degree from Tel-Aviv University in Biomedical Engineering.  His Masters thesis was implemented to save lives during car crashes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Scott Schwarzhoff, VP – Marketing, AppCelerator
